Strong showing for Friday’s swim 4

A large contingent of idiots swam to the post this morning. Despite a water temp of 17.1C the general consensus was that it was cold. Spare a thought for Linda who has swam all winter sans wetsuit. Arriving at the post first was Linda, although she is first to admit she was given a big headstart. Next was Bevan, followed by Sutho and Stephen, and bringing up the rear was Judy, who was obviously tired from rolling on the floor in fits of laughter last night whilst watching “Bill Bailey’s Remarkable Guide to the BBC Orchestra.” For those of you who haven’t seen it, do yourselves a favour and rent a copy. The man is truly gifted!

The route home was an old fave, around Gwen’s cojones, across to the island to regroup, before pushing on to the dirty pin and back to the beach. Water clarity was so-so and the swell was flat. Dave meanwhile had to sit this one out as he was preparing for round 1 of root canal therapy. He plans to make a return on Monday – if not before.

On Thursday, a contingent made up of Bevan, Judy, Linda and Dave headed out. There were undulations on the sea floor which made it difficult to stand upright, and was not helped by a confused swell that peaked and troughed close to shore. The water was bracing at the start(16.5C) but fortunately Dave followed the example set by Sutho and Stephen on Wednesday and donned a rashy. Brilliant idea having the extra layer of protection but it did slow him down a bit as Bevan powered ahead. At the post, the consensus was to swim around Gwen’s cojones, and down to the far pin. Dave followed Bevan on the scenic route – swimming far left between the yachts, past “Sumbawa”, and on to investigate a ketch or yawl (further discussion required here) called “Pooka” that we hadn’t noticed before, before arcing back around to the far pin. Heading to the dirty pin, we came upon a very tardy Sutho.
On further investigation, “Pooka” is 8.92m (29ft) long and was built in 1976; Sumbawa is 13.62m (44.5ft) and built in 1986. Source: Australian List of Registered Ships

It was a cracking dress as I did observe it with Dave…..not sure it’s above the entrance but it was very close to the camel teeth !!

Well, I thought the highlight of the morning was Judy explaining how she thought a Camels’ toe was actually called Camel’s teeth…..brilliant! But the true highlight occurred around 9.00am (for those of us without a job),when a pod of approx. 20 dolphins swam around our pin, into the dirty pin and then along to the outlet pipe and over to the jetty, back though the boats, back to the pin and then they took off down past the island. A huge crowd watching and truly majestical. And they did it in about 4 minutes!!!!

Awesome. And how did you come to be discussing camel toes with Judy pray tell? Did Judy explain how a camel toe looks like camel teeth? Another highlight was the Gosford skirt we observed parading along the esplanade. The water was sensational this afternoon and warmer than 17C, I thought.
