It was a day of firsts with Sutho arriving five minutes early and 2 new idiots joining us for a swim to the post.
Lining up at the start were new idiots Rob and Mark for their maiden swim, Chris back from his overseas trip, and Bevan, Linda, Dave, Stephen, Richard, and Sutho!
With not a competitive bone in their bodies, Richard was first to the post, followed by Bevan, Rob, Sutho, and Dave, rounding out the first wave.
AMENDMENT: Sutho arrived first… thanks for setting the record straight Richard…
The second wave consisted of Linda, Chris, Stephen and Mark. It’s the first time since Stephen joined the idiots, that he has not finished close to the front, instead wearing the mantle of chaperone for Mark’s maiden swim.
The new idiots received a round of applause for reaching the post and then Sutho impressed everyone with a clean joke which had us all in stitches.
Concerned with maintaining a distance of at least 1000 metres (for Richard’s sake), Dave set the return course – back to the Raglan Street cone, down to the island, and back around the Almora Street cone to the beach. Six idiots completed this swim leg – Bevan, Richard, Sutho, Rob, Stephen, and Dave.
Rob narrowly missed a collision on the way back and copped some abuse from a disgruntled swimmer, who told him that he was swimming in the wrong direction. Hey, we’re idiots! We can swim wherever we darn well please.
1085 metres covered in total. Great effort and an impressive swim for Rob’s first time with the idiots!
Mark and Chris headed back to the beach from the post for a 700 metre swim. Well done Mark! Chris had no energy in the tank after being away…

I beg to differ as I have a feeling RBJ did pip me at the post however, I will take the glory for this one. I do feel that if the numbers continue and the apprentice idiots become full blown, we will need speedos with “THE IDIOTS” on the bum and possibly new t-shirts (do I have a deal for you). Also want to add well done to the newbies, as it is intimidating on your solo idiot swim. As for that moron in the BBC cap, I suggest if he is spotted tomorrow, the pack swims over, around, under and alongside this goose! As you said Dave…..we’re idiots!! And I was talking to Louise under the shower later and she wasn’t offended by any remarks!! It certainly wasn’t the tinea line that made her take off, it was the mention of the wart!
So you had a shower with Louise afterwards??… You wouldn’t mean the tap per chance?
Great ideas regarding the t-shirts but let’s get some that are pre-shrunk and a generous cut this time – for those of us without the killer six packs….
Maybe have three classifications – “Real Idiot”, “Seasoned Idiot”, and “Apprentice Idiot” or “Idiot in Training”…
“Apprentice Idiot” is a great classification. I’ll add that to the definitions page. I think it was Judy who suggested that the title “Real Idiot” should be reserved for those who have earned their stripes swimming all year round, which is a fair call.

Very enjoyable swim this morning gents except for the tool in the BCC swimming cap. He’s a ‘sand hugger’ and will never qualify to be an Idiot as far as I can see. That said, I fully understand that I’m on probation at this point so will now shut up!

Dave – for the record…Sutho was already sipping a martini & having a cigarette as I reached the post. Great swim today & loved the photos from yesterday/ today.
I thought that was the case but Bevan told a different version. The ‘not having a competitive bone in their bodies’ was originally intended for Sutho 😉
