Sensational Swimming Conditions 5

The desire to stay in bed this morning was strong. However, the habit of early morning swimming won out and I’m thankful that it did. Whilst the water this morning felt colder than the reported 18.9C , it was still sensational.

Making the trek around the island today were Dave U., Chris, Dave, and surprisingly, Richard and Sutho! Good to see Richard bucking the trend of hibernating till the warmer months. Ian and Richard’s exfoliation treatment worked wonders as they shaved the island and themselves on the trip out.

The chat at the far cone was brief, then it was every man for himself as we raced for home. I found drafting next to Richard and Ian to be particularly enjoyable. Photographer Louise was on hand capture the momentous occasion of RBJ and Sutho joining us for the Friday swim. Thanks Louise!

The Seasonal Idiots were in plentiful supply with Ruth, Ken, Di, Di E., Claire, Gail, Janice, Catherine, Mike, Robert, Bob!, Linda, Rod, Meg, Tim, Fran, Paul!, Pam, Pam, Louise, and plenty more braving the conditions.

Apparently there was a dolphin in the bay this morning which circled a swimmer three times… It reminds me of the very funny “should have gone to spec savers” commercial for some reason…

About Dave

Dave has been an idiot for longer than he can remember. However, his Real Idiot status was confirmed about 20 years ago when Linda and Bevan coaxed him out to the post. Developer and administrator of this website as well as reporter, photographer, and chief spell-checker. Thankfully, other idiots contribute to the site to keep it interesting...

Crisp & clear – great swim & great photos Dave (& Louise!). Dave, very modest of you not to remark on the speed in which you passed me around the island (both ways). I couldn’t keep up with the pack this morning – I think this 1 day per week swimming is not cutting it. Superb start to the day & will check the archives to see if this is the latest in the season I’ve swum ‘sans wetsuit’.

Don’t forget I was wearing a wetsuit Richard, so its hardly a fair contest 😉 I did find a post from 2015 written by Stephen who was swimming on the 6th and had been stung by something that I won’t name. gulp!

Fran shared a photo of his spectacular painting. I didn’t realise we had another talented artist in our midst.

I think I did OK to capture a good looking black dolphin – sleek and taller than the other ‘ swimming fish’ …
