I volunteered for the water temp duties this weekend unaware of the risks involved. A learning experience indeed with a forceful push of water and a few waves thrown in for good measure. On Saturday, my efforts resulted in a soaked top. Note to self – don’t wear shorts or a top in rough conditions. With that lesson learned, Sunday was a case of trying to stay on my feet and above water whilst peering at a tiny gauge and snapping a picture.
The temp on Saturday was 16.25C and despite today’s report of 16.25C it was actually 17C – a stark contrast to Friday’s reading of 12.75 – 14C. An LED temp gauge has been suggested and would be welcomed. Preferably one with large numbers!
Enjoying the later swimming time on Saturday were Sally, (not sure if Richard swam), Ian, Rod and Pam, and me – carrying on the tradition of swimming without protection, like the Seasoned Idiots do all year round.
On Sunday, I was later and it was quieter at the beach. Ian was there and didn’t believe it when I first stated it was 17C degrees. Looking at the photos again, I mistakenly read Saturday’s figures – hence the 16.25C recording for today.
I noticed a guy come in to shore quickly on his surf ski this morning. The retreating water took his ski and I looked on incredulously as he went to retrieve it. The ski was parallel with the beach… It raced back at him with force. He was thrown up and over performing a 180 degree half somersault with a twist. Ouch!
