Its not technically a swimming story but I can’t resist sharing the news that Rowena and her quad won silver for Australia in the World Under 23 Rowing Championships in Plovdiv yesterday.. They survived very very hot conditions and were in silver medal position throughout the race. Poland won gold with France in Bronze.
In honour of the occasion I’ve appointed Rowena to Rowing Iimagediot status because she’s even more nuts than we are with her early starts and dedication t her cause!!
I am in “oar”.
Congratulations to Rowena and to the Meredith family for what I know would have been a whole of family support job all the way. Well done.
Ruth and Joe.
Well done Rowena! Mighty fine effort for sure! Look forward to hearing all about it on Monday when Chris returns. I managed two swims this week David whereas you managed… Hope you are feeling better soon! So we won’t be seeing Sutho for summer time yet. The good news however is that it is light at 6.30am now.
Well done the Meredith and Gotch clans….bloody good effort.Like SBJ, I swan Saturday and Sunday mornings after the sun had risen. I also paddled around to Chinamans yesterday with my wife to look at the whale. It surfaced 3 metres from us which was incredible. It then took us an hour to paddle back to Balmoral as the NWesterly was blowing us out to sea. Anywhoose, the water is clear and not bad with a wettie on but will not be swimming mid week until the sun gets closer to 6.00am again.Well done to Rowena again.
Congratulations to the Meredith family especially Rowina for a great result. I was actually up listening to the Bulgarian commentary. How warm does the water need to be before we see a Basil-Jones in the early morning, we had better put that in the request otherwise she may come and go before you guys are seen again. Dave is now a more frequent winter attendee, well he was there last week but not for a long swim, we were going round the Island but perhaps Dave only heard Island. And Bevan back from acclimatising in Iceland at 6.00pm Sunday there and ready to go 6.30 am Monday. Toughen up boys.
Wow….I mean seriously wow….the closest us IDIOTS will get to a world champ I reckon (besides me chatting to Tora Bright last week/Snowboard champion). Could we request the honour of her swimming with her other two sisters & all of us Idiots when the water warms….and touching/sighting the Medal ?
I had a ‘bewdiful’ swim on Saturday & Sunday you’ll be pleased to know….mid-morning of course…whales not interfering with me around the cool, clear shores of Balmoral.Water way cool but I loved it.
Cheers,
Stephen
p.s. If Matt & Judy can share recipes…you can definitely darn well share sporting stores & triumphs.
Incredible – to achieve this result is absolutely worthy of posting on this very exclusive site!
In what is truly a global sport & one that is the most physically demanding of any sports this is an incredible achievement Chris – you should be mighty proud. Congrats to Rowena from me (& my son Harry who was mightily impressed).
