Is there anyone out there ??? 4

We’re all talking about it….the darkness of the mornings…especially so this morning …..with rain clouds abounding.
Dave Sanney will add a photo I took of the Tractor cleaning the beach with full headlights on which at least provided a glimpse of which way to the sea !
After a thorough Sydney soaking overnight….the expectant dirty waters scared many a swimmer off.
My appearance in the darkness startled Dave U. who expected he’d be swimming on his own.
Chris Meredith appeared & gave the tip that “it’s better to show up before you wake up that way you don’t mind the swim !”….and with Bevan out with an ear infection…who else ? Dave Sanney not a chance with a mention of bluebottles the prior day..and not even Linda showed up today…but lo’ & behold…with a miners light guiding her down Lower Almora Road….Judy appeared at the wishing well.
Judy was questioning some objects floating in the water’s darkness…which turned out to be seagulls…and hard to believe but she nearly collided with a couple as well…it was hilarious as they refused to get out of her way.
Ruth was there of course at 6.38 am…in time for a glimpse of us at the shoreline…
Out to a yacht and to the pin….where we spied a floating white buoy (“Wilson from Castaway”)drifting towards us…we laughed..turned out to be some silver-haired gent who quietly kicks his way out backwards to the pin.
Home-ward bound we set avoiding the inner-smelly shores..
Water was cool on top…warm down below (like Chris he said) & murky brown….Judy revealed all to prove the point after…A smooth pleasant swim but a bit more clarity is preferred beneath the water-line.
Pip Pip…see you in the darkness again this week.

Well, it is one thing to be known as the Idiots however, quite another to confirm it. Dark and brown run off won’t see me in any time soon. The chance for infection is high in putrid seas prior to a US trip, so will be back in the weekend I return on April 2. This is I believe the Balmoral Swim day AND the return of the sun in the mornings, so will probably enter, albeit on several weeks of layoff. In the meantime, I wish you Idiots brave enough to swim in the dark safe travels. And remember if it looks like poo, smells like poo, tastes like poo…..it probably is poo !

Great post Stephen , and fantastic accompanying photo . Who is that in the early morning gloom though ? Di , or Rosie ?
Great swim, despite the particulate matter and initial darkness, and pleased to report my costume has been through the washing machine and is once again clean !!
Looking forward to daylight saving ending , and lighter mornings, but for the time being , these dark ones are an exciting challenge

Well written Stephen. I definitely wimped out yesterday for sure and swimming in dark brown water today sounds so enticing 😉 Chris or David encountered some cross traffic on the way out to the the cones yesterday. There was a collision but the only one who stopped was the guy swimming across.

The depiction of Wilson’s double is hilarious 🙂
