Last week I was hibernating and although the warmth of my bed this morning held the usual allure, I bit the bullet and headed down the hill. Went for a walk down to the footpath that has been dug up at the Raglan St end and was surprised that works hadn’t progressed much further from a week ago. Chatted with another swimming idiot from the Raglan St crew who was disgusted by the flagrant waste of money – no arguments there. Dave jogged past on the soft sand in his bare feet….bbbrrr…
Arriving back at the steps, Chris was taking some snaps in the shallows. It was a stunning morning despite the lack of light and a cool offshore breeze making its presence felt.
I was pleased to see that Chris and Dave were donning their wetsuits, so I happily followed suit.
We headed around the dirty cone, down to Raglan St end, then set a course for the post (stump) – not much showing now, about a foot, if that. I had to make several course corrections before finally reaching our target. Straight back in to finish, which I was happy about.
Also enjoying the frigid water (17.5C) were Rod, Di, Linda, Malcolm & Chris, Bruce & Josey, Tim, Meg, and….
A positive start to the winter week. Long may it continue… 🙂
I was on the second shift – at 7.15 – and Meg (yes she was still there!) and I had the velvety water all to ourselves. So rich and smooth… and not ‘cold’ (yet!).
Well done Louise! Sounds like a much saner time to me 🙂
Great pics Dave!!
Call me weird but I”m not really noticing the cold yet (at least, not in the water. To meet feels fresh and clear and (even more weirdly) I even enjoyed the swim into the chop against the wind on the way in. Long may it continue!!
PS Will there be a special ceremony when the post finally disappears beneath the waves??
