Sea Lice – SPECIAL REPORT

According to a variety of articles ‘Sea Lice’ is a general term used to describe anything that causes a skin irritation in the ocean. Other articles mention that it is either parts of jellyfish tentacles or jellyfish larvae.

Whatever the description, it is damned irritating as I discovered this morning when we ran into a large patch 100m offshore. Not as brave as my fellow idiots (Judy, Bevan, Stephen, Dave, and Chris) it was time to exit stage right and head ashore. The swim back was as irritating as the swim out.

Apparently, the idiots that I left behind found an even greater quantity further out. Have at it!

One remedy for warding them off is to wear sunscreen. I will be experimenting with that tomorrow, although I am doubtful it will work.

Remedies? Washing in warm salty water apparently as fresh water causes the sting to fire. I am scratching my head on this factoid as the seawater would be full of sea lice right?!
