The observations from November:
The sudden passing of Malcolm has shocked us all. A large contingent of idiots attended his funeral service at St James Cathedral on Friday, 10th November. It was a beautiful service attended by people from all walks of life – journalists, politicians, media personalities, and the aforementioned idiots. Our deepest sympathies go out to Chris and Doone and their family.
Bevan sums up our sentiments of Malcolm best.
“Malcolm bought a lot of joy to a lot of people and we were the lucky ones who got to enjoy his retirement time.”
I will always remember Malcolm’s friendly greeting, “Helloo Dave” which always brought a smile to my lips.
Less sad news from Idiot Central:
- Dave S. has gone from being a faster swimmer to only managing 200m swims before bursting into tears from the pain in his shoulder. Wimp!
- The BJs and Rob have returned to the beach – absence made their hearts grow fonder…
- Bevan has finally stopped wearing his wet-suit, now that the water temp has hit an undeniable 20C.
- Chris M. has been conducting some camera classes at Balmoral through AirBnB. Sounds like a fun way to spend two hours and learn some great tips.
- The water temp recordings are written on the wall beside the shower. One day we may get the wishing well back, but I’m not holding my breath.
- Thanks to Paul for the chilli plant that has taken pride of place in Bevan’s factory garden.
- One Wednesday, we were visited by bluebottles. Fortunately, they were washed up on the beach but it did make one a little wary.
- Chris’ photo of Claire took pride of place as the first photo displayed in the Mosman Daily’s #snapsydney collection. Well done Chris and Claire!
- The water was predominantly clear in November.

Wonderful to open this post and see Malcolm front & centre – brought a great smile to my face as he did whenever any of us chatted to him! Terrific post Dave. (& for the record – I’ve been swimming all season as the Mosman Daily & Calendar will attest to!). See you tomorrow for the Barrel swim – you can join us for 100m out & then return to the stairs.
