Jan 2018 Week 1 Digest 2

It’s been a fun start to the New Year with guest scribes writing up the water temp and other stats this week.  So far these brave souls have made their mark:

Long may this tradition continue.

  • There have seen some record high tides this week and the water temp has been a bit up and down. Plenty of fish about and the water is clearing up a bit after the recent deluge. The tide was so high that it covered the walkway around the baths.
  • The Real Idiots are in training for the Great Australia Day Swim on Jan 20 (yes, I am aware that Jan 20 isn’t Australia Day). The course is 2.2kms and it will be the 3rd year that we have participated. Judy will be joining us for her maiden swim and she can’t wait!
  • Merv Hughes (aka Bevan) visited briefly again this week, along with Wallander (aka Chris M), who has been holidaying on the south coast.
  • Matt joined Stephen, Richard, Ian, and Dave S. for a swim on Sat’dy morning to Bevan’s Rock. A perfect time of the day before the hordes descended.
  • There have been a gazillion yachts moored in Hunter’s Bay this week which has made the swim routes more enjoyable.
  • On Friday, the “Around the Island” swim was extended to Deadmans’ making the outward leg 904m. Nice one.
  • Uncle Ken joined us for coffee a couple of times this week. It’s good to see him up and about.
  • And a big thanks to Janice who gave me a green cap that matches nicely with my useless pair of goggles. At least I’m colour coordinated 🙂
  • It would be remiss of me not to mention the EIGHT CAT swim pulled off by Dave U and Bevan during the week. A first for the Real Idiots. I managed to swim -8 Cats…

    Thanks for the review Dave , looking forward to my first swim at Balmoral for 2018 , having been happily in residence on South Coast this past week . Ready for training for my second Australia Day Swim – I have the medal to prove it ?

      Aah yes, my editor just reminded me that the event was cancelled last year and that Judy did in fact participate in the Great Sydney Swim of 2016.
