Young Bevan returned to the fold this morning after his brief sojourn in Japan. “Island Idyll” was the target set for Dave U., Chris, Bev, and Dave. Bedecked in their long-john wetsuits and Bev adding a layer of protection in the form of a long-sleeve rashy, they stood in the shallows for a moment’s contemplation before they were off and racing.
Dave stopped as quickly as he began, startled for a moment thinking that his wetsuit had sprung a leak! The volume of water racing across his skin (where there should have been rubber) was unsettling. Checking all points of ingress and finding nothing out of place, he heaved a mental sigh of relief before continuing on. In relaxed swimming mode (rather than panicking that he was lagging behind), he was able to catch up to Dave, Chris and Bev near the pink buoys.
Arriving at the stern of “Island Idyll”, the boys were able to appreciate the stunning morning despite a slight offshore breeze making its presence felt. Over to the stump next which is a challenge in itself when there is a chop to contend with. Across to the tip of the island in almost clear water to appreciate the wildlife, then down the coast and a dugong to finish. Very nice.
Louise impressed us as she waded into the cool water in a two-piece with nary a backward glance. Business as usual for all the inshore idiots who take the plunge without any protection 🙂 This morning’s roster included Ruth, Di, Vic & Rosemary, Robert, Linda, Catherine, Di E, Claire, Louise, Josey and… Paul was about, but not sure whether he was swimming…
Having commented on the lack of progress concerning the path destruction yesterday, we were surprised to find our tap fenced in and slabs of concrete broken and upended. Maybe the Mayor has been reading the SI blog…
Hello Everyone from Alghero on the West coast of Sardinia, an old , walled port town. Our hotel is on a small rocky headland , from which several sets of steps lead to the water . Happily I can report that John and I enjoyed a fantastic swim this morning . Water probably about 21 and crystal clear . A lot of rocks on the bottom, so fish to be seen . This morning we take a boat across the bay to visit Neptunes Grotto, from the photos, a most impressive cave ( the alternative is s drive then a descent of 600 steps – and back up !! )Island Idyll swim sounded great , I look forward to being back in the water with you all .
How are we SIs going to cope without access to our trusty tap to ensure we are not removing any grains of precious sand from the shores of Balmoral? Perhaps we can persuade the ever resourceful Ken to bring his tap handle and leave in place to tide (no pun intended) us over until the Balmoral Promenade makeover is completed… what do you think Ken???
