We had quite the collection at the Almora Steps this morning with the BJ’s swelling the ranks.
Also in attendance for the swim to the post via the stern of Belle and the catamaran (that had just anchored) were:
- Judy
- Chris
- Bevan
- Dave F.
- and Dave S
The swim out was hard going. Very choppy and clumps of sea grass still prevail. Water clarity not so good either.
The main party arrived on the starboard side of Belle and had a chat with one of the cat’s crew. Dave meanwhile pulled up on the port side of Belle and waited…and waited… and waited before spotting the the gaggle of idiots heading for the barrel. BUGGER ME!
So he set off in pursuit hating every moment and feeling very exposed and vulnerable in the choppy, murky water.
Arriving at the barrel in one piece, Dave enjoyed the brief respite.
Richard decided to race back to shore to meet an 8am deadline. Having swum about 30 metres, he pulled up and suddenly realised that there was safety in numbers. The gaggle set a course straight to the dirty cone, whilst Dave was so buggered that he let the waves push him whether they wanted to go – which was close to the moored boats.
Having measured the distances to and from, I can report that the distances swum today were:
- Beach to Barrel 1 via the catamaran for the gaggle was 634 metres
- Beach to Barrel via Belle for Dave is approx. 624 metres
- Barrel 1 directly to Beach for the gaggle was about 616 metres
- Barrel 1 to the beach via the yachts for Dave was 663 metres
All up, 1250 metres give or take for the gaggle and 1287 metres give or take for Dave
